the Christians to know for sure they had (past tense) eternal life.
Saved. Heaven bound.
Some misguided Jewish believers in Jesus came to Antioch, Syria
and were teaching. They insisted the Gentile believers could not
become true Christians unless they kept the Law of Moses. And
the text of such compliance was circumcision (Acts 15:1-5). Paul
and Barnabas vigorously challenged this. The apostles and elders
met to conclude what to do. Peter addressed the leadership saying
it was not right to burden the Gentile believers with a yoke that
even their own Jewish people could not bear. Peter says:
No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we
are saved, just as they are.
Acts 15:11
The matter was settled. A letter from the apostles and elders was
sent to the Gentiles stating that it seemed good to the Holy Spirit
and the leadership not to condemn them with keeping the Law
of Moses and circumcision in order to be saved.
Be Saved
The gospel in a nutshell. Jesus’s words: ‘For God so loved the world
that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should
not perish but have everlasting life’ (John 3:16 NKJV). People are
going to one of two destinations: heaven (eternal life) or hell.
Without Jesus the Saviour, people perish after they die. And
without knowing it, humanity is perishing in their earthly life
without Jesus. How can they live without Jesus? But whoever
believes in the cross of Jesus, God’s Son, has eternal life. Jesus offers
life in all its fullness in this life, even though we may have suffering,
hardship, or sickness. Believe and receive Jesus.
