FOREWORD

irst, let me say something about my friend Andy Economides.
Andy relates a little bit of our story in this book but way
back in the 1970s – when digital meant something to do
with your fingers, to have a 20-inch colour telly was to show off
and when the Vietnam war was still raging and there was still hope
of a Beatles reunion – we were students together. Indeed, we were
more than fellow students: we were good friends. We both came
out of the Greek culture which gave us shared tastes and distastes
and a mutual sense of feeling, well, just not quite properly British.
Now when they are talking about friends, people often say of
someone, ‘I’m very grateful that he or she introduced me to . . .’
But that phrase does not do credit to the gratitude I feel here
because, quite simply, Andy introduced me to Christ and the rest
of my life has been something of a long and fascinating sequel
to that meeting. In fact, significantly, Andy did more than just
introduce me to Christ; he encouraged me to go deeper with
Christ and to seek the experience and power of the Holy Spirit.
So, both as evangelist and spiritual mentor I owe a great debt to
Andy. As you would expect we have stayed close ever since and I
am hugely thankful to the Lord.
Now, secondly let me say three things about this book. The first
thing is that it is typically Andy: wise, practical, and distilled from
many decades of a faithful walk with Jesus.
The second thing is that these 52 weekly reflections are condensed.
Each one of them could easily be enlarged into a chapter length
study but Andy has wisely left that unravelling and expansion
for you, the reader. He has sown seeds here for you to water
